Tutorial Title: Immersive Learning Frontiers: Exploring the Potential of Metaverse and XR in Education and Training
Date & Time: Thursday, May 22, 2025, 15:15-16:15
Room: An An 2
The future of education and training is being reshaped by immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Extended Reality (XR). Immersive Learning Frontiers: Exploring the Potential of Metaverse and XR in Education and Training invites educators, trainers, researchers, and innovators to discover how these powerful tools can revolutionize learning environments. Metaverse of Academic Nexus for Global Opportunities (MANGOs) offered this tutorial, an initiative from universities across ASIA, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Srilanka, Laos. MANGOs is designated to be a virtual ecosystem in the metaverse that gathers many researchers across ASIA who are researching immersive technology and its usage in different sectors, including education, training, tourism, and healthcare.
Six researchers across ASIA, including Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, will discuss enhancing the learning experience using immersive technology. The tutorial will start with an overview of immersive technology and how this technology can be applied in extensive training and education systems. Dr. Chamnan Kumsap from the Defense Technology Institute will discuss how immersive technology might be used to train individuals in preparation for fire situations and emergencies. In the third session, Prof. Lunchakorn will elaborate further about MANGOs and demonstrate some applications on Metaverse, mainly for education, tourism, retail, and virtual showroom exhibition. Those projects are related to MANGOs collaborator projects
Moreover, Dr. Pisit Vanichchanunt from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand is likely to discuss and engage in the discussion of Metaverse in self-learning, enhancing the smart classroom, virtual labs, and exhibitions. Following Dr. Pisit, Dr. Halim Budi Santoso from Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana will deliver on how Metaverse can be combined with a gamification element to enhance the learning experience of the cultural heritage. Lastly, Dr. Roberto will share on how VR tours can shape the collaborative educational ecosystem, inspiring the creation of Metaverse environments to foster intercultural collaboration and scalable learning across ASEAN countries.
Please join us to gain new concepts behind immersive learning, the transformative structure of the Metaverse, and practical strategies for integrating XR technologies into educational and training practices. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions with researchers with the same research interests, examining real-world use cases, and uncovering practical implications for education and training in the immersive virtual environment. Indeed, by participating in this tutorial, you will gain a strong conceptual foundation and acquire actionable insights to lead innovation in your field. Seize this opportunity to extend your academic network with MANGOs members and open new collaborative research to leverage the educational journey.
